The Mental Wellbeing Response Team is an initiative run by the Ottawa Paramedic Service, in collaboration with The Ottawa Hospital. This city-wide program aims to improve both short-term and long-term health outcomes for non-violent and non-criminal emergency calls received through 9-1-1, where mental health and substance use are contributing factors. The program works as follows:

  • A specially trained paramedic is paired with a mental health professional, such as a registered social worker from The Ottawa Hospital. The paramedic conducts medical assessments and provides necessary treatment.

  • The mental health professional performs mental health assessments, develops care plans, provides safety planning, and can even schedule follow-up care as needed.

This approach ensures that individuals receive comprehensive care that addresses both their immediate medical needs and underlying mental health concerns.

Please call 9-1-1 to access this service.
